I collaborated with the artist Laurence Deschamps-Léger, known as Laucolo, to create unique holiday gift tags that you can download here today. Laurence is a Montreal-based illustrator who creates one-of-a-kind drawings that highlight seasonal fruits and vegetables. I've been a fan of her work for a while and I'm so happy we finally got to meet and work together. You can see more on her Instagram page and Etsy shop.

I love offering edible gifts to the ones I love during the holiday season. They are such a special attention, and are to me so much more valuable than any store-bought gift I’ll ever buy. Taking the time to make something from scratch and to wrap it in a beautiful package makes the whole thing so much more valuable, for the person who's receiving, but also for the one who's offering it. Homemade granola is one of my favourite gifts to offer at Christmas. It's easy to make and to personalize, and everyone loves it! The recipe I'm sharing today is perfect for this time of year, and so addicting. It's as if chocolate granola and gingerbread cookies had a baby. Yes, it’s as good as you think. Offer it to a special someone, or make it to enjoy yourself.:) Happy holidays!

Chocolate Gingerbread Granola

ingredients

  • 2 cups rolled oats (certified gluten-free if necessary)

  • 1 cup raw nuts (pecans, almonds, cashews, etc.)

  • 1/2 cup coconut flakes

  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 3/4 tsp ground ginger

  • 1/4 tsp freshly grated nutmeg

  • Pinch ground cloves

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil (solid)

  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup

  • 2 tbsp molasses

  • 1/4 cup raw cacao powder

instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a large baking sheet with a silicon mat or parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, combine the oats, nuts, coconut flakes, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves and sea salt.

  3. In a small saucepan over low-medium heat, melt the coconut oil. Once melted, add the maple syrup, molasses and cacao powder and whisk to combine.

  4. Pour the liquid mixture into the bowl of dry ingredients. Mix with a wooden spoon to coat.

  5. Spread the granola mixture evenly onto the prepared baking sheet and press with a spatula to make sure it is quite compact.

  6. Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes. Flip the granola in big chunks using a spatula, and place back in the oven. Bake for another 12-15 minutes, until fragrant and crispy. Keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t burn.

  7. Remove and let cool completely. Store into jars and decorate them with the provided gift-tags if you’d like.
